MELBOURNE@5MILLION GRASSLAND
Below is the submission by a friend of mind whose home is being acquired under the Land acquisition Act for grassland. I have omitted some contact details for privacy reasons. Now If I had spent many years building what I would have thought was a safe and secure home for my kids I too would be very upset if this happens to me and I would fight the authorities on taking it from me. She is not the only one that is affected by the acquisition by many others as well along that proposed reserve. Planning must have been going on for years but owners were given less than a month to make a submission from what I had read on Melbourne@5Million.
In one swift blow they have turned the world around to active community members and a dedicated parent and music teacher. If they can do this to her family they can do it to you at any time. Please join the fight by spreading the word of the poor and shameful manner in which this was handled and give back the land to the people. Help us save the homes of the people that live at Mount Cotterell. Please read on. Thank you.

Submission of Mr and Mrs Frank and Michelle Spiteri
Mount Cotterell 3024
RE: Proposed Grassland Reserves in Mount Cotterell, revision of the UGB, the Outer Metropolitan Ring Road and the designation of land use for development and native grassland reserve.
This submission STRONGLY opposes the establishment of grassland reserve at Mt. Cotterell and specifically the land at the above mentioned site.
This submission supports the Outer Metropolitan Ring Road path in its current route.
Our names are Frank and Michelle Spiteri. We wish to submit to you our strong objections regarding the proposal to place our family home and 27 acre property in the grasslands reserve at Mount Cotterell. Our property address is 716 Troups Road South. Please see the attached map for exact location. We wish to argue that this proposal is not warranted and that our land has no ecological significance and has no place in a grassland reserve.
We have owned the property since 1992 and have lived here since 1994, firstly in the existing weather board dwelling that was on the property and then in our new home which was completed in 2001. In the past 17 years, we have made many capital improvements to our property by way of
- a machinery shed built in 1999
- a new 40 square home completed in 2002
- significant tree planting on property boundary
- removal of old existing dwelling in 2003
- new fencing around property boundary
- spraying, cultivating, removing rock to stop the spread of tussock
- in drought free times we have had excellent barley and wheat crops.
- veranda and outdoor living area.
As is obvious, our property is far removed from a vacant and unused block of land. It has been our home and we have taken great pride in maintaining it and improving the value of it. Please see attached photographs which show the amount of capital improvements mentioned above. To have this taken away from us for the purpose of a proposed grassland reserve is a gross injustice and warrants high legal contention by us and by land and home owners in a similar situation.
In the 17 years we have owned the property have we have never had ANY communication, either written or verbal, from a Shire Of Melton, DSE or DPI officer that acknowledges the existence of any significant vegetation on our property. The Biodiversity Impact Assessment Report names our property as having very low value vegetation. Both DSE officers that we spoke with at the Melton and Wyndham information sessions also supported the fact that we have no significant vegetation on our properties. Yet, we are being subject to this unfair and unjust acquisition of our home. It is interesting to note the 48 hectare Mount Cotterell volcanic cone purchased by the Shire of Melton, ( by its own admittance on the council’s website under sustainability) to protect state and nationally significant grasses is not included in the proposed grasslands reserve and yet ecologically poor land such as our developed property is.
It is our understanding these grasslands are at act as an offset to the damage caused to the significant native vegetation caused by the development of land within the new Urban Growth Boundary. The area designated for the Mount Cotterell grasslands has even less of an environmental value to land included within the UGB. We argue that our property is an extremely accessible area and sits on the current Urban Growth Boundary. This provides for land that is extremely suitable for urbanisation given its proximity to major infrastructure such as the proposed Outer Metropolitan Ring Road and the Regional Rail Link. There are many houses built and currently being built on the west side of Troups Road South. It makes little sense to include these developed properties in a grassland reserve when there is development only a stone’s throw away.
If the need to acquire this parcel of land for proposed grassland is so great, we suggest allowing existing home owners such as our selves to have their homes excised from the reserve so that at the very least, we can remain living our own homes.
Furthermore, we are very concerned about the process that government will be undertaking to acquire the land for the grassland reserve. It is our understanding from the letter sent on June 18 out by Peter Harris, Secretary of the DSE, that land falling within the proposed grasslands reserves, will be subject to the introduction of a Public Acquisition Overlay by the State Government. We further understand that this will be done without invoking the Land Acquisition and Compensation Act until such time that the government is truly ready to acquire the land. This will “lock-up” and devalue our land and home for potentially many years. This is unacceptable and if the State Government wants to acquire the land then they must invoke the act immediately. It is unfair for the government to expect that home owners are to wait in “limbo” until they are ready to act. Not only do we lose our homes and land but will also be bound by a Public Land Acquisition Overlay that limits us considerably. As landowners we strongly object to any of this happening.
In relation to the Outer Metropolitan Ring Road, we have no concerns with its current path even given that a small portion of the south east corner of our property will be affected. We hope to be able to keep our home and this will mean that we will have excellent access to the Outer Metropolitan Ring Road by way of the on ramp at Riding Boundary Road and at Boundary Road.
We trust that you will take our concerns regarding the issues raised seriously and respect the right that we have to protect our home and investment.
Regards,
Frank and Michelle Spiteri
People make a Church
Our Church Our Parish – St Catherine of Siena
In 2004 Mass was said in the school hall of Christ the Priest – Caroline Springs by Fr Karmel Borg (Parish Priest for St Peter Chanel – Deer Park). The mass attendance was modest attended by the growing catholic population of Caroline Springs and comprised of maybe 100 parishioners or so. These parishioners were part of the St Peter Chanel Parish in Deer Park but who had come to live in Caroline Springs. The first ministries were the choir and altar servers. In those days Mass was said only on Sunday at 10.30 am as Fr Borg also had to say Mass at St. Peter Chanel. Fr Paul Newton an assistant priest took turns with Fr Borg to say Mass.
For about 2 years Mass was celebrated this way until Jan 18 2006 when the parish of St Catherine of Siena was formed from the growing community. Now we celebrate Mass during the week and on Saturday at 6.00 pm and Sunday at 9.00 am and 10.30 am. Fr. John Tollan is our parish priest.
The people of St Catherine of Siena Parish make up the church in Caroline Springs and we now have many ministries. Although we still celebrate the Eucharist in the school hall we now have four Choirs including a youth Choir, Altar Servers, an RCIA group, a Baptism team, a Charismatic Prayer Group, Parish Grandma’s, a Wednesday walk chat and coffee group, and an active Social committee. On every third Sunday we have a morning tea for all who wish to attend and have a chat. Every third Sunday Fr. John also blesses couples whose wedding anniversaries come within that month.
Sr Denise Hanneberry joined our parish in 2007 and has been actively teaching the community what it means to be a catholic community together with Fr John. Sr Denise conducts the walk and chat group as well as a Prayer and Reflection Group where she shares her in depth knowledge and life long theology about the bible and teachings of Jesus Christ.
Our youth have attended the 11th World Youth Day held in July 2008 in Sydney where Pope Benedict delivered a wonderful message of Hope to the world youth. As our parish grew so too did our schools and we now have two schools within our parish, Christ the Priest and St George Preca which began classes this year.
Our most recent activities include St Catherine of Siena feast day celebrated on Sunday 3 May 2009 (official day is 29 April) where our 10.30 Mass was attended by nearly 600 people. More than 1500 people came to celebrate our feast day that day and many enjoyed Krispy Kremes, sausage sizzles, drinks, scones, popcorn and many rides. Our parent / teacher Band “After school Detention’ performed, as did the schools combined choir, with others performances by students showing off their many talents. It was a glorious success. Other social activities planned each year include Christmas Carols, a parish dinner and many others activities. We hope and pray that we will soon have our own church building in which to celebrate Mass. Regardless of the building we the people make up the church. Recent statistics showed Caroline Springs at 45% Catholic population up from the 39.9% ABS statistics 2006, a growing community indeed.
All are welcome to come and celebrate the Eucharist with us either on Saturday 6.00, Sunday 9 am and 10.30 am. We are the church and we celebrate together.

Western and Asian approach towards life
I receive this from a friend and found it very interesting and might want to share it. Now if this does not tell us about two different cultures I do not know what does. It is simplistic and to the point and most interesting perspectives about how westerners and Asians see things. Hope you like it. As an Asian living in a western culture I tend to find some of this true. What do you think?
East meets West! Do you think this is true?

Security status
Security Status
The British are feeling the pinch in relation to recent
terrorist threats in Islamabad and have raised their
security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved."
Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to
"Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross." Brits have not been
"A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies all but
ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome"
to a "Bloody Nuisance."
The last time the British issued a
"Bloody Nuisance" warning level was during the great fire of
1666.
The French government announced yesterday that it has raised
its terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide". The only two
higher levels in France are "Collaborate" and "Surrender."
The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed
France ‘s white flag factory, effectively paralysing the
country’s military capability.
It’s not only the French who are on a heightened level of
alert. Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout
loudly and excitedly" to "Elaborate Military Posturing." Two
more levels remain: "Ineffective Combat Operations" and
"Change Sides."
The Germans also increased their alert state from
"Disdainful Arrogance" to "Dress in Uniform and Sing
Marching Songs." They also have two higher levels: "Invade a
Neighbour" and "Lose".
Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual,
and the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling
out of Brussels .
The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines
ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass
bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look
at the old Spanish navy.
Americans meanwhile are carrying out pre-emptive strikes, on
all of their allies, just in case.
And at a local level…
New Zealand has also raised its security levels – from
"baaa" to "BAAAA!". Due to continuing defence cutbacks (the
airforce being a squadron of spotty teenagers flying paper
aeroplanes and the navy some toy boats in the Prime
Minister’s bath), New Zealand only has one more level of
escalation, which is "Shut, I hope Austrulia will come end
riscue us".
In the event of invasion, New Zealanders will be
asked to gather together in a strategic defensive position
called "Bondi".
Australia, meanwhile, has raised its security level from "No
worries" to "She’ll be right, mate". Three more escalation
levels remain, "Crikey!’, "I think we’ll need to cancel the
barbie this weekend" and "The barbie is cancelled". There
has not been a situation yet that has warranted the use of
the final escalation level.
The Soursoup
THE SOURSOP (Guyabano)
When I was growing up in Singapore we had many fruits such as this in our Garden. We had Starfruit, Jackfruit, Soursop and many more. There were natural fruits we ate on a daily basis and enjoyed but little did we know its properties. Now we eat many fruits that have so many chemical additives that we slowly destroy our immune system. I am not too sure if the following has any fact but I do know one thing. That the fruit is delicious and good to eat and of course it was natural. I believe that you can get this fruit drink in most supermarkets and stores. Try it when you see it next and enjoy the rich flavour.
I love this fruit, BUT it is not readily available from the wet markets.
Not available in Clementi. (A place in Singapore)
It has a fantastic taste, much better than sunkist orange’s sweet and sour!
Here’s a fruit we should try eating more. It’s very easy to find in
Canada . In S’pore we called it, "Ang Mo Liew Lian".
THE SOURSOP (Guyabano)
The Sour Sop or the fruit from the graviola tree is a miraculous natural
cancer cell killer 10,000 times stronger than Chemo …
Why are we not aware of this? Its because some big corporation want to
make back their money spent on years of research by trying to make a
synthetic version of it for sale.
So, since you know it now you can help a friend in need by letting him
know or just drink some sour sop juice yourself as a prevention from time
to time. The taste is not bad after all. Its completely natural and
definitely has no side effects. If you have the space plant one in your
garden. The other parts of the tree are also useful.
The next time you have a fruit juice, ask for a sour sop.
shfoong: guyabano.
How many people died in vain while this billion-dollar
drug maker concealed the secret of the miraculous Graviola tree?
If there ever was a single example that makes it dramatically clear why
the existence of Health Sciences Institute is so vital to Americans like
you, it’s the incredible story behind the Graviola tree.
The truth is stunningly simple: Deep within the Amazon Rainforest grows a
tree that could literally revolutionize what you, your doctor, and the
rest of the world thinks about cancer treatment and chances of survival.
The future has never looked more promising.
Research shows that with extracts from this miraculous tree it now may be
possible to…..
Attack cancer safely and effectively with an all-natural therapy that does
not cause extreme nausea, weight loss and hair loss
Protect your immune system and avoid deadly infections
Feel stronger and healthier throughout the course of the treatment
Boost your energy and improve your outlook on life
The source of this information is just as stunning: It comes from one of
America ‘s largest drug manufacturers, the fruit of over 20 laboratory
tests conducted since the 1970’s! What those tests revealed was nothing
short of mind numbing… Extracts from the tree were shown to:
Effectively target and kill malignant cells in 12 types of cancer,
including colon, breast, prostate, lung and pancreatic cancer.
The tree compounds proved to be up to 10,000 times stronger in slowing the
growth of cancer cells than Adriamycin, a commonly used chemotherapeutic
drug!
What’s more, unlike chemotherapy, the compound extracted from the Graviola
tree selectively hunts down and kills only cancer cells. It does not harm
healthy cells!
The amazing anti-cancer properties of the Graviola tree have been
extensively researched–so why haven’t you heard anything about it? If
Graviola extract is as half as promising as it appears to be–why doesn’t
every single oncologist at every major hospital insist on using it on all
his or her patients?
The spine-chilling answer illustrates just how easily our health–and for
many, our very lives(!)–are controlled by money and power.
Graviola–the plant that worked too well
One of America ‘s biggest billion-dollar drug makers began a search for a
cancer cure and their research centered on Graviola, a legendary healing
tree from the Amazon Rainforest.
Various parts of the Graviola tree–including the bark, leaves, roots,
fruit and fruit-seeds–have been used for centuries by medicine men and
native Indians in South America to treat heart disease, asthma, liver
problems and arthritis. Going on very little documented scientific
evidence, the company poured money and resources into testing the tree’s
anti-cancerous properties–and were shocked by the results. Graviola
proved itself to be a cancer-killing dynamo.
But that’s where the Graviola story nearly ended.
The company had one huge problem with the Graviola tree–it’s completely
natural, and so, under federal law, not patentable. There’s no way to make
serious profits from it.
It turns out the drug company invested nearly seven years trying to
synthesize two of the Graviola tree’s most powerful anti-cancer
ingredients. If they could isolate and produce man-made clones of what
makes the Graviola so potent, they’d be able to patent it and make their
money back. Alas, they hit a brick wall. The original simply could not be
replicated. There was no way the company could protect its profits–or
even make back the millions it poured into research.
As the dream of huge profits evaporated, their testing on Graviola came to
a screeching halt. Even worse, the company shelved the entire project and
chose not to publish the findings of its research!
Luckily, however, there was one scientist from the Graviola research team
whose conscience wouldn’t let him see such atrocity committed. Risking his
career, he contacted a company that’s dedicated to harvesting medical
plants from the Amazon Rainforest and blew the whistle.
Miracle unleashed
When researchers at the Health Sciences Institute were alerted to the news
of Graviola, they began tracking the research done on the cancer-killing
tree. Evidence of the astounding effectiveness of Graviola–and its
shocking cover-up–came in fast and furious…..
…….The National Cancer Institute performed the first scientific
research in 1976. The results showed that Graviola’s "leaves and stems
were found effective in attacking and destroying malignant cells."
Inexplicably, the results were published in an internal report and never
released to the public…
Since 1976, Graviola has proven to be an immensely potent cancer
killer in 20 independent laboratory tests, yet no double-blind clinical
trials–the typical benchmark mainstream doctors and journals use to judge
a treatment’s value–were ever initiated…
…….A study published in the Journal of Natural Products, following a
recent study conducted at Catholic University of South Korea stated that
one chemical in Graviola was found to selectively kill colon cancer cells
at "10,000 times the potency of (the commonly used chemotherapy drug)
Adriamycin…"
….The most significant part of the Catholic University of South Korea
report is that Graviola was shown to selectively target the cancer cells,
leaving healthy cells untouched. Unlike chemotherapy, which
indiscriminately targets all actively reproducing cells (such as stomach
and hair cells), causing the often devastating side effects of nausea and
hair loss in cancer patients.
….A study at Purdue University recently found that leaves from the
Graviola tree killed cancer cells among six human cell lines and were
especially effective against prostate, pancreatic and lung cancers….
Seven years of silence broken–it’s finally here!
A limited supply of Graviola extract, grown and harvested by indigenous
people in Brazil , is finally available in America .
The full Graviola story–including where you can get it and how to use
it–is included in Beyond Chemotherapy: New Cancer Killers, Safe as

cancer.

Michael Jackson – The legend lives on.
The man the music is dead. But Michael Jackson’s legacy lives on. I started following Michael and his music when I was very young. It was when I saw a young boy of my age sing on the TV show. Perhaps the Andy Williams Show of the Ed Sullivan Show. I used to watch it a lot as I love music and I love to sing. The host introduced a young group of 5 African American boys whose Motown music was taking the world by storm. The talent of one boy in particular was mentioned – a 11 year old Michael Jackon. He was singing with his brothers – the then Jackson Five. Their music thrilled me then and I thought wow this boy can dance and sing as well.
I said to myself that there are going to be great things that this boy can achieve and indeed he did. Throughout his life Michael Jackson created some of the most memorable and enjoyable songs our world has ever known. I have always loved his music and I guess I always will. You see I was the same age as Michael then and was growing up to a world of television and music. I will never achieve the greatness that he achieved but I will always remember Michael for what he gave the world. His life and his Music.
He died at age 50 but would have turned 51 in August 09 and of an age barely old enough to be called old. But I see Michael as never really having grown up. He is still that same boy. Did it matter if he was black or white? I never thought so. When you have lived the life that Michael lived and that life was filled with being a pefectionist, you never are really part of this world. It was never good enough for him to just do what you did before. He always wanted to do so much more. I believe that this is what killed him not the drugs as they mentioned. When he tried to return the pressure was too great for him to bear and he could not take not being able to peform as he always did.
The boy, the music lives in my heart forever and I live in his music forever. Michael you will always be a legend. May you rest in peace, Michael Joseph Jackson.
Faith
Faith is a wonderful part of our human existence. It is not something that we can do without as we deal with it in all our daily lives. For instance I trust that you will do the right thing by me. Just as I trust my friend to be a good friend to me. We have to have faith in all we do as without it we will surely perish. It is not only spiritual but to a certain extent physical. I trust that I can carry the load to the car. Perhaps on a metaphysical plain. Faith is what keeps me going day by day doing the things I need to do at work and at home. For me it is more spiritual than physical as without that special gift to feel and know faith I cannot exist.
Why because it keeps me alive. To trust all those around me to be a good friend or family. We have to trust even strangers to guide us on our daily path. As Pentecost descends upon us and Easter comes to a close I feel that I am lost without my faith not just being a catholic but by being a person. If you do not have faith in your ability to live, can you. Will you not drown in your internal self. Believe in yourself and have faith.
Pentecost (Whitsunday)
A feast of the universal Church which commemorates the Descent of the Holy Ghost upon the Apostles, fifty days after the Resurrection of Christ, on the ancient Jewish festival called the “feast of weeks” or Pentecost (Exodus 34:22; Deuteronomy 16:10). Whitsunday is so called from the white garments which were worn by those who were baptised during the vigil; Pentecost (“Pfingsten” in German), is the Greek for “the fiftieth” (day after Easter).
Whitsunday, as a Christian feast, dates back to the first century, although there is no evidence that it was observed, as there is in the case of Easter; the passage in 1 Corinthians 16:8 probably refers to the Jewish feast. This is not surprising, for the feast, originally of only one day’s duration, fell on a Sunday; besides it was so closely bound up with Easter that it appears to be not much more than the termination of Paschal tide.
That Whitsunday belongs to the Apostolic times is stated in the seventh of the (interpolated) fragments attributed to St. Irenæus. In Tertullian (On Baptism 19) the festival appears as already well established. The Gallic pilgrim gives a detailed account of the solemn manner in which it was observed at Jerusalem (“Peregrin. Silviæ”, ed. Geyer, iv). The Apostolic Constitutions (Book V, Part 20) say that Pentecost lasts one week, but in the West it was not kept with an octave until at quite a late date. It appears from Berno of Reichenau (d. 1048) that it was a debatable point in his time whether Whitsunday ought to have an octave. At present it is of equal rank with Easter Sunday. During the vigil formerly the catechumens who remained from Easter were baptized, consequently the ceremonies on Saturday are similar to those on Holy Saturday.
The office of Pentecost has only one Nocturn during the entire week. At Terce the “Veni Creator” is sung instead of the usual hymn, because at the third hour the Holy Ghost descended. The Mass has a Sequence, “Veni Sancte Spiritus” the authorship of which by some is ascribed to King Robert of France. The colour of the vestments is red, symbolic of the love of the Holy Ghost or of the tongues of fire. Formerly the law courts did not sit during the entire week, and servile work was forbidden. A Council of Constance (1094) limited this prohibition to the first three days of the week. The Sabbath rest of Tuesday was abolished in 1771, and in many missionary territories also that of Monday; the latter was abrogated for the entire Church by Pius X in 1911. Still, as at Easter, the liturgical rank of Monday and Tuesday of Pentecost week is a Double of the First Class.
In Italy it was customary to scatter rose leaves from the ceiling of the churches to recall the miracle of the fiery tongues; hence in Sicily and elsewhere in Italy Whitsunday is called Pascha rosatum. The Italian name Pascha rossa comes from the red colours of the vestments used on Whitsunday. In France it was customary to blow trumpets during Divine service, to recall the sound of the mighty wind which accompanied the Descent of the Holy Ghost. In England the gentry amused themselves with horse races. The Whitsun Ales or merrymakings are almost wholly obsolete in England. At these ales the Whitsun plays were performed. At Vespers of Pentecost in the Oriental Churches the extraordinary service of genuflexion, accompanied by long poetical prayers and psalms, takes place. (Cf. Maltzew, “Fasten-und Blumen Triodion”, p. 898 where the entire Greco-Russian service is given; cf. also Baumstark, “Jacobit. Fest brevier”, p. 255.) On Pentecost the Russians carry flowers and green branches in their hands.
Maybe Someday
Sound l a little procrastination but that is what we all say sometimes. Someday I will clean out that cupboard. Someday I will throw it away but for now I need it. If only I had the time, If only I did it yesterday. but what do we do for now keep it I guess.
Cheers to the weekend
